Mount Vernon, Ohio-In the recent history of Mount Vernon Nazarene College, labels such as Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, Structure/Express, Gap (for chicks, or gay guys), American Eagle, and J. Crew have dominated the closets of staunch conformists. Each distinctive brand of clothes presents a unique way to conform. Administrators estimate that the conformist movement has made such progress as to reach well over 90 percent of the campus. Numerous complaints have flooded in from students about social lessers not adhering to the "unspoken" dress guidelines.
Disgusted by the "fashionably-challenged" minority of MVNC, school administrators have furthered restrictions included in the dress code. With this kind of behavior going on administrators knew that they had to take action to suppress any deviation from social norms. Amendments to the dress code include restricting dress to uniforms sponsored by, long-time conformist favorite, Abercrombie and Fitch.
Students hope that after the changes they will no longer need to ostracize these radicals and look forward to having a larger population to socialize with. A student group, headed by SGA, called Students for Fashion Reform, has been formed to aid in the transition process. "Through these layouts and models we want to give students an idea of what to look forward to next year." said SFFR president Kevin Meyers, an avid supporter and once employee of Abercrombie.
Prototypes of the spring line for both men and women have been revealed, seen modeled to the left. The proposed changes will take effect coinciding the acquisition of University status.
